Chelmsford Theatres have teamed up with electric voice theatre and Essex Music Hub for Essex 2020 to create a virtual choir. This project forms part of the Echoes from Essex festival and celebrates remarkable women in science and music from the county’s past and present.
We would like to recruit local people of all ages and abilities to take part, there is no audition process and no one will be required to sing on their own during the sessions. It would be wonderful to make this a family affair so we encourage whole households to get involved in creating the project together. Ultimately we’re looking for people who enjoy singing and are passionate about sharing the stories of these often unsung local scientists who have helped to shape the science and engineering industry.
Frances Lynch, electric voice theatre
Music has been created especially for this project with British female composers and you will help to shape some it too - so it’s a chance to take part in something exciting and unique.
Sessions will take place weekly via Zoom and start on Wednesday 29 July through to September. The sessions will be recorded for marketing purposes but please rest assured that you will not be required to have your camera or microphone on during the sessions so participants will not appear in the recordings if they do not wish to.
Whether singing is for you or not, we would love to hear from anyone in Essex who knows stories of local women who have worked (or still do work) in Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths or Medicine. The details given will be included in a piece of work called ‘Forgetting to Remember’ and it would be fantastic for us to be able to champion as many local women as possible.
If you can contribute to the piece please click here and fill a short form.
All you need next is to create a free Zoom account here. Make sure you sign up at least 30 minutes before the first Zoom session as you will be asked to verify your account with them.
