From Love Your Library day to a planetarium at Colchester Castle, Essex 2020 has a lot to offer during the school break this February. Here is a selection.

Love Your Library Day

On Saturday 15 February every library in Essex will be celebrating all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths).

From lava lamp building in Brentwood and coding in Chelmsford, to junk model making in Harlow, science experiments in Loughton and ‘rocket mice’ in Witham – find out which FREE Love Your Library event is happening in your library and help us inspire the scientists, engineers and artists of the future.

‘Wat’s On… Science’ week

Feb 17th – 21st – Wat Tyler Country Park, Basildon

A science week packed with fun, educational activities and challenges that the whole family can enjoy. Feel The Force on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Explore Nature/Nurture activities on Tues and Thurs.


Feb 15th – Chelmsford Raspberry Jam – STEAM festival in Chelmsford Library with coding, tech and digital making activities for all ages and abilities.


Feb 18th and 20th – Learn more about our planet and solar system at the pop-up Planetarium at Colchester Castle. Join in craft activities after your tour of the night sky.

Meet warm blooded animals and cold blooded critters and have some Animal Encounters at Colchester Natural History Museum on the 19th and 21st of Feb.

Visit the iconic Firstsite Gallery any day from 10am-5pm to view several incredible and innovative exhibitions and installations for free.

Colchester Library is hosting a month long digital photography exhibition themed around flora and fauna found in Essex’s suburban gardens.

Feb 15th – 23rd – Fabzoolous Friends at Colchester Zoo.


Feb 17th – Crazy about coding? Don’t miss this free, friendly Southend Tech coding meet-up.

Feb 22nd – Digifest Celebration Event – A chance to view all the incredible work made by participants in Focal Point Gallery‘s month-long digital arts festival.


Feb 19th – STEAM Drop-in Sessions – free, fun and interactive activities for children of all ages

Drop into the Gibberd Gallery to see an exhibition of all works entered into the 20 x 20 Harlow Open. Monday – Friday 9am-4:45pm, Sat 11am-4pm.
