People on Work is a library of interviews with interesting people doing interesting things. The hope is that these individual stories and experiences shared by real people will inspire and inform young people when considering their career choices.

People on Work’s aim is to democratise work and career information. If you want to know what it’s like to be a CEO, a Retail Manager, a Builder - or anything else for that matter - People on Work wants you to see and learn from someone with the experience of doing that job. A real person for you to understand and connect with.
Whatever work they do, every person interviewed answers the same three ‘golden’ questions:
- What do you like about your work?
- How did you start out?
- What advice would you give to someone starting out today?
The questions may sound simple but there is real insight to be gained from hearing what people say about their careers and the decisions that influenced their path.
People on Work was set up in Chelmsford as part of Essex2020. The channel has some fantastic content, with new films being added regularly. Since COVID-19 restrictions, People on Work also developed a ‘Lockdown Series’, where contributors could be interviewed remotely.
Power to the People

You can take the interview yourself or film someone else. You don’t need expensive filming equipment, a smartphone recording is fine. You could challenge friends, family or colleagues to make a film.
