The Essex 2020 podcast
In this series, we go behind the scenes of the UK’s biggest celebration of science and creativity. In each episode, Essex 2020 project director Richard Freeman meets some of the brilliant people and organisations who are working to create, inspire and discover Essex’s past, present and future.
In this episode: Gareth Roberts and Project in the Paint
Project in the Paint is a community art and sport social enterprise in Chelmsford, helping to promote the need for greater investment in grass roots basketball in the UK.
This project aims to re-imagine under-loved and under-used public basketball courts. Renovating and installing large-scale works of art, in order to strengthen communities and inspire play, culture and creativity in public spaces.
Richard Freeman talks to founder Gareth Roberts about his ambitions for the project, street art culture in the UK, materials science and public reaction to the works.
