In this episode: Dr Hephzi Tagoe from Basildon Street Science / ghScientific
Dr Hephzi Tagoe is a research scientist, educationist, STEM communicator and social entrepreneur. She is the founding director of GhScientific and a freelance science writer as well as running a learning centre in Basildon.
In 2014, she received a national science communication award for her work in engaging underserved communities with science. In 2017 she received a highly commended women in science award and that same year she was nominated as a finalist in the outstanding STEM ambassador category of the national STEM inspiration awards.
Hephzi was won multiple awards for her role as a science communicator, and was named by the Financial Times in 2018 as one of the most influential people of colour in UK tech. She serves as the regional chair for the Beds, Essex and Herts branch of the Royal Society of Biology and organises the annual Basildon Street Science festival.
Richard Freeman talks to Hephzi about science and creative communication, taking experiments into community spaces and the visibility of female and minority ethnic role models in Essex’s science story.
