About the activities
These summer activity packs have been created by Darkroom37, a dedicated darkroom and analogue photography studio at SPACE Colchester, 37 Queen Street. The project is supported by Colchester Borough Council’s Creative Events Fund and is part of Essex 2020.
The activities highlight the origins of analogue photography through the creation of camera obscura and alternative photographic printing techniques and have been designed for artists looking to experiment with new methods, as well as families and children looking for creative projects to do at home.
Advanced techniques and alternative materials are also listed in order for you to experiment further. Please note that adult supervision for younger children is advised.
If you post your handiwork on social media please tag SPACE on Instagram at @space_studios_london with the hashtag #SPACEsummeractivities or on Facebook at @SPACEStudiosLondon. Dont forget to #Essex2020 too. We look forward to seeing your artwork!
As part of this project, SPACE will be hosting an event in Colchester’s Castle Park where participants will be invited to record images through a pop up camera obscura or through ones they have made at home. Due to Covid-19, the date of this event has been postponed until 2021. Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to be notified when the event will be taking place.
